Museum Employment

Cranbrook Art Museum seeks temporary museum employees to work varying schedules during the holiday season (generally mid-November through mid-January), and periodically through June 13, 2010 as needed.  Responsibilities include:  Monitor all objects on display and engage and educate visitors on the Artology exhibitions; maintain friendly, cheerful and professional services to all Museum visitors; provide information to visitors; be aware of Artology related programs; be aware of emergency and security procedures and implement when necessary.  Requirements:  High school diploma or GED (college course work preferred); willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings; must be able to engage the public, school children and teachers, other staff and volunteers with ease and enthusiasm.  Customer service and education experience, and knowledge of art desired.

Program Presenter - Outreach

Cranbrook Institute of Science seeks a Program Presenter to deliver high-quality natural science programs to school groups and the general public on topics of Physics, Geology, Paleontology, Astronomy and Anthropology.  Program Presenters are expected to demonstrate excellent presentation and classroom management skills.  This educational outreach position operates in a school and public building environment throughout the metro-Detroit and Tri-County area, with occasional trips beyond that area.  Will be required to drive a museum vehicle to outreach locations, and lift and move equipment exceeding 50 pounds in order to set up programs.  Requires:  Completed college level science, social science or education courses in science; one year of experience in formal/informal teaching for variety of ages; enthusiasm for the subject and an eagerness to share that enthusiasm with learners of all ages; proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint; customer service experience and the ability to positively and effectively work with the public, school personnel, students, and volunteers with ease and enthusiasm required; requires a valid Michigan driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.  This is a part-time position working 19 hours per week.  The work schedule will vary and will include weekdays, afternoons, evenings and weekends.  Must be available at least three days a week including two evenings.

Substitute Nurses - Lower School

Substitute nursing positions are available at Cranbrook’s Early Childhood Center and Lower School, both of which staff full time nurses.  In this position you would be called to work as needed to substitute for regular school nursing staff.  A BSN, pediatric experience and current CPR certification are required.  Emergency department and/or first aid experience preferred.   Ability to teach classes from developed lesson plans is needed for Lower School (grades 1-5).  For consideration, please complete and submit a Faculty Application and personal vitae that includes a resume, copy of nursing license, copies of any certifications, and contact information for at least two references to the address shown on this website. Lifeguard - Williams Natatorium

The Natatorium lifeguard is responsible for ensuring members and guests a safe and positive recreational experience, while upholding the two primary responsibilities - preventing accidents and responding to emergencies. Other duties include: Keep the pool, pool area, locker rooms, and office clean and neat at all times; be knowledgeable of the pool rules and enforce them tactfully; attend all in-service training programs; be knowledgeable about the emergency action plan, pool facilities, equipment, hours of operation, and pool events; other duties as assigned. Current lifeguard training certification, current community CPR certification, and current standard first aid certification are required.

Natatorium Supervisor - Williams Natatorium

The Natatorium Supervisor is responsible for: Monitoring the lifeguards and ensuring that guests follow the natatorium guidelines; being knowledgeable about the emergency action plan, pool facilities, equipment, programs, hours of operation, and pool events; properly completing required maintenance and paperwork of the facility; the proper shut down and opening of the facility when necessary, including monitoring that patrons exit the pool, locker rooms, observation areas and hallways; other duties as assigned. Previous experience instructing, managing, and/or developing programs is required. Previous lifeguard experience and current lifeguard certification are desirable.
