College Counselor
Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School
One-Year Position

Cranbook Kingswood Upper School is offering a one-year college counseling opportunity for an individual seeking to work with one of the leading independent school college counseling teams.  Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School is considered one of the top day/boarding schools in the U.S., with a diverse student population hailing from 20 states and 24 countries.  Our school seeks to instill in students a strong sense of personal and social responsibility, the ability to think critically, and the confidence to communicate and contribute in an increasingly global community.

The successful candidate will assume an active role in college counseling as an Associate Dean of College Counseling in the Upper School.  The candidate must be able to thoughtfully and effectively support and work with students to develop an appropriate plan for the school-to-college transition; advocate effectively on behalf of Cranbrook students with colleges, scholarship foundations and others through the development of strong letters of recommendation, follow-up phone calls, and individual meetings; be comfortable meeting with students and their families, as well as with college representatives; be willing and eager to learn.  Duties will also include some academic advising and co-curricular responsibilities as needed.

A comfort level with doing presentations, strong computer skills, an ease with interpreting and manipulating database systems (e.g. Naviance), web pages and social media is preferred.  A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required, though a Master's degree in one of the counseling fields is highly desirable.  Two to three years of experience in college admissions and/or college counseling work is strongly preferred. Involvement in professional organizations and meetings is expected.

The position is being created to maintain a full staff of five college counselors.

Latin Teacher

Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School

Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School is seeking a qualified Latin instructor to teach two sections of beginning high school Latin for the 2018-2019 academic year.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required with a Master’s degree desirable.
  • Two to three years of teaching experience is preferred.
  • A willingness to live and work in a dormitory setting is desirable.

Spanish Teacher
Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School

Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School is seeking a full-time Spanish teacher for the 2018/2019 school year to join a highly experienced, supportive and creative World Language Department.  The ability to teach across the Spanish curriculum is desirable.  Classes are taught almost exclusively in the target language, and lessons integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills with culture as a backdrop. Vocabulary and grammar play a role in this holistic process, however communication is the main goal.

  • Duties include teaching, advising, and extracurricular responsibilities. 
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the subject area is required, with a Master’s degree and two to three years of teaching experience desirable.
  • A willingness to work in a residential program is preferred.

Substitute Teachers - Lower School

Substitute teaching positions are available at Cranbrook's Lower School (Brookside). Brookside is a Pre-K through 5th grade school, which offers substiutes a variety of quality teaching experiences. Substitute teachers must have a Bachelor's degree and teaching experience, with Teacher Certification strongly preferred. Substitute Assistant Teachers must have a background in Education or related field and/or experience with young children. Please note that Cranbrook Schools use PESG for their substitute teachers.
